The Norwegian family name Hovdenak was chosen for the distillery when it was founded in 2018 in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. After a few years of experimenting, the perfect product was born and got the name Stuðlaberg Gin.
A sample bottle of Stuðlaberg was sent to the specialist Henrik Hammer in Denmark. It was promptly approved and things were immediately put in motion. Hákon Freyr and Erling had the same vision and saw an opportunity to utilize their skills and experience in spiritmaking and operations management. Their dream of creating their own product became a reality.

Every machine, equipment, and the distillery to its entirety was designed and set up by the owners. The distillery was built from the ground up, resulting in becoming one of the most technically advanced distillery in Iceland. Many were a part of this project, as the distillery was built with the assistance of cherished friends.
This distillery is set apart from others because of its distillation process. The distillation takes place in a vacuum, leading to the products being distilled in a much lower temperature than the traditional method. The essential oils are better achieved this way, which results in the product becoming smoother and more refined. Only geothermal energy is used for heating therefore the distillation process is environmentally friendly.
